MINI MYTH

Firstborn of the Olympians, Hestia came into the world and was immediately swallowed whole by her prophecy-fearing father. Later, she was spit back out into a family of squabbling siblings and divine ego. But Hestia chose a different path from that of the Zeuses and Poseidons of the world.

While they carved out empires of thunder, love, and war, she wrapped herself in a woollen cloak and lit the hearth. She became the centre of every home, mortal or divine. She turned down power and love, choosing warmth and stillness instead.

A RITUAL FOR HESTIA: MULLED WINE

In Ancient Greece, every meal and every flame began at the hearth. Hestia lived at the centre of the home, in the simmering pot, the warmth of the stove and the scent of spice in the air.

Tonight, we channel her through the deliciously fiery energy of mulled wine.

Make it from scratch and let the aroma fill your space. 

You’ll need:

1 bottle red wine

1 orange (zest and juice)

2 tbsp honey or sugar

2 cinnamon sticks

4–6 cloves

2 star anise

Optional: a shot of brandy or orange liqueur

To make:

Add everything to a pot over low heat.

Stir gently and let it just simmer (don’t boil). Steep for at least 15–20 minutes.

Taste, adjust, linger.

Strain and serve warm.
