The Art of Scent-Scaping with Vessel

What the hell is scent-scaping you ask? A big trend in the interior design industry, scent-scaping uses fragrance to define, style, and set the mood for specific rooms or zones in a space. Many businesses do this - retail spaces, hotel lobbies, food venues, wellness spaces etc often have a signature scent that aim to invoke a particular feeling or nostalgia to their customers.

Scent-scaping draws on the principles of aromatherapy, but it’s only going to be truly useful to the mood & energy of a space if you are using legitimate aromatherapeutic scents (natural, botanical extracts & oils).

We’ve written this guide on how to scent different zones in your home using our 9 aromatherapeutic blends, but of course it’s up to you which scents resonate and which ones you’d like to have fill different rooms in your home. These are just our personal faves.

Entryway: Banish

Not all energy that comes into your home is wanted. Diffusing or misting Banish near the entry of your home is a good way to keep any negative, stagnant or unwanted energy from lingering or crossing into the threshold of your sacred space. It can also help clear anything you’ve been carrying with you through your day that you don’t want to bring home, it’s a great little ritual to do as you enter your space.

Living / Lounge Areas: Grounded & Sanctuary

Usually a central part of the home where its occupants gather, creating a warm inviting space that makes everyone feel comfortable is key. Both Grounded & Sanctuary offer warming, centring notes that connect us back into our physical selves & earth’s energy, allowing us to take a breather, feel nourished & safe to be ourselves.

Kitchen / Dining Area: Clarity

We call this blend our conversation starter, each oil in this blend works to enhance our mental clarity, clear any brain fog & encourage us to express ourselves, a perfect blend to start conversations around the kitchen table or during dinner gatherings. This spicy, herbaceous blend has notes of cinnamon, rosemary, juniper berry & grapefruit. It sounds like a gin cocktail (but please never drink it!) & it has scent notes that come from delicious culinary plants that also hold many medicinal properties when used as herbs. Their essential oil components are no different, just offering a different mode of delivery that speak to our mind, mood & nervous system.

Bathroom: Intuition

In our opinion, so many of us come up with our best ideas in the shower, keep a bottle of Intuition mist handy in the shower & spritz 2-5 times once its nice and steamy in there, the steam will activate this refreshing scent & open up those pathways to think clearer & channel new thoughts and ideas. With its notes of peppermint, lavender & bergamot it can also keep the bathroom area smelling fresh.

Office / Study: Euphoria & Aura Protection

Our Euphoria blend can offer a little pick me up when we might be sitting our desk for hours each day and feeling fatigued, or trying to tap into our creative flow. It has some beautiful bright, uplifting notes to brighten our minds, mood & space. If you feel tension arise during your work day, apply some euphoria balm to your wrists and inner elbows, the oils will work with your nervous system & may help relieve any feelings of being ‘stuck’. Aura Protection can offer grounding, transformational energy, when zoom meetings, emails or work calls feel like a drainer, spritz our Aura mist around your work area or diffuse / burn it close by. It’s woody, earthy notes call in the grounding strength of the forest, and connect us with our own inner strength.

Bedroom: Peace & Lover

Finally the bedroom! This one is a no brainer for us - Peace offers a beautiful traditional blend of clary sage, lavender & chamomile to invite a peaceful slumber, and a calm nervous system. We love using the Peace balm on our temples, wrists & feet before bed so it can work its magic with our nervous system. Lover is our favourite oil to burn in the bedroom, designed to support self-love, sensuality, and emotional connection, its gentle aphrodisiac qualities invite softness, pleasure, and warmth. This blend is inspired by Venus and Aphrodite, it celebrates love, pleasure, and the art of feeling fully.
