The Healing Room - Sinead forever <3

In honour of the memory of one of our favourite truth tellers, artists, poets and activists, this week’s Journal is a tribute to Sinéad O’Connor, who passed away on 26 July 2023, and to the truth she spoke through her music. We’re remembering the lyrics that called out injustice, sang for the silenced - for the rage, the grief, and the parts of ourselves we can begin to heal. So many of her words and actions came long before the world was ready to listen.

Sinéad’s voice was resistance. It was healing. It was courage. We’ve put together a short playlist (at the end of this post) featuring some of our favourite songs, and we hope her legacy of compassion, truth and activism continues to ripple outward.

We’ve also included the lyrics to one of our favourites - The Healing Room - below. A song Sinéad described as a mantra, it offers an invocation of self-trust and the strength that lives within. At Vessel, we honour that kind of healing. We believe in practices that help you reconnect with your self, body, your emotional landscape, and the creation of your own healing room.

The Healing Room by Sinéad O'Connor
I have a universe inside meWhere I can go and spirit guides meThere I can ask oh any questionI get the answers if I listen
I have a healing room inside meThe loving healers there they feed meThey make me happy with their laughterThey kiss and tell me I'm their daughterI'm their daughter
They say
You have a little voice inside youIt doesn't matter who you think you may beYou're not free if you don't know meIf you don't know meSee I'm not the lie that lives outside youAnd it doesn't matter whatYou think you believeYou're not free if you don't know meIf you don't know meSee I am the universe inside youYou come to me and I will guide youAnd make you happy with laughterI joy in seeing you're my daughterYou're my daughterSo believe you're not free ifyou don't know me
