Spooky Season Scents

Even though living in the southern hemisphere, Samhain - the ancient Celtic festival that has inspired modern day Halloween - falls in the middle of our autumn, we know many people like to get into the spirit of the northern hemisphere's autumnal celebrations. So in the spirit of our adopted spooky season we wanted to share our favourite blends for Halloween (whether your knowledge of Halloween runs deep or isn't really for you, please take the following with a pinch of salt & in good fun).

Aura Protection - Halloween is rooted in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in), when the veil between the physical world and the spirit world grew thin. People wore masks and animal skins so wandering spirits would not recognise them as humans or to ward off harm, may be a little Aura protection can help ward off any unwanted spooky visitors as well?

Banish - If you're trick or treating or offering the local neighbourhood some sweet treats, theres a lot of energy exchanges with potential strangers, a good spritz of Banish around your doorway can clear any unwanted energy. We also recommend spritzing it to banish any greedy teenagers who don't have a plausible costume & take one too many sweets from your doorstep.

Clarity - Some of the oils in this blend have some folklore rituals attached to them that we think work with the season of Samhain & Halloween. Juniper Berry: In Scottish Folklore, it is claimed that witches had to count every needle on a juniper bough before they could enter a home & burning juniper in the home warded off the evil eye. Rosemary: In some European folklore traditions, Placing a sprig of rosemary under your pillow or hanging it in doorways is believed to keep away nightmares & restless sleep. Cypress: Cypress trees are planted in graveyards because of their deep symbolic ties to death, practical shape, and protective folklore.
