Rosa Divina

We recently had the privilege of scenting Rosetta, an exhibition curated by one of our favourite artists Melissa Grisancich now on until 24 Jan 2026 at the Jacky Winter Gallery in Collingwood.

Rosetta is an invitational exhibition that draws upon the timeless motif of the rose - fragile yet enduring, symbolic yet personal. A single cutting, a brooch, a poem, a song, or a story can each stand as a quiet tribute to the rose, reflecting its beauty, mystery, and resonance across cultures and histories.

Our scent Rosa Divina was created especially for this exhibition, drawing on Greek mythology and the folklore surrounding the red rose and her origins. With notes of frankincense, West Australian sandalwood and rose damask, the scent is intended to take you to another time or space - where you can connect with the rose in all her depth and beauty. You can purchase this limited edition scent here or please visit the gallery & support your local art scene.

APHRODITE & THE ROSE

According to myth, Aphrodite named the rose after her son Eros when she first saw its beauty - a fitting tribute, since “rose” is an anagram of his name. Eros, later called Cupid by the Romans, was the god who sparked desire with a single arrow to the heart. The rose became his symbol, its thorns imagined as the very arrows that inspired love.

One of the more tragic myths tells how Aphrodite, distraught over a plot against her mortal lover Adonis, ran to warn him. She raced through bushes of white roses, pricking her ankles on their thorns; her blood dyed the petals red, giving the red rose its meaning of eternal devotion. Sadly, she arrived too late, her tears mingled with his blood, and from it sprang a red rose bush, a living testament to love, loss, and devotion.

Rosa Divina is inspired by these tales - the rose’s timeless symbol of love, and the incense once burned in Aphrodite’s ancient temples.
