Mabon is a pagan celebration of the Autumnal Equinox, marking the threshold between summer and winter, when day and night are of equal length (celebrated in the Southern Hemisphere – March 20, 2026). Mabon invites us to find balance as we move from the outward, yang energy of summer to the inward yin of winter. It is a time to slow down, complete what has been started, preserve what has ripened, and take stock of what we have. When celebrating this time of year, we give gratitude not only to the fruits of our labour, but to the necessity of endings, clearing space for the seed to grow when the cycle begins again.
Our simple Mabon altar:
Many symbols for Mabon can be used as an altar. Seeds, gourds, leaves and branches; colours golden, earthy, and raw. But sometimes we like to keep things simple at Vessel, stepping back and acknowledging the celebration's essence – the equinox. The equal divide of night and day. So, to give our thanks to this magical time of the year, we simply light two candles – one black and one white – and spray our scent of choice.

Scent:
Our Autumn Bundle of Intuition and Peace, chosen to support reflection, grounding, and balance as the season turns.
Ritual:
While our candles burn, we can either take the time to be still in recognition, or we can continue to honour Mabon through the act of preservation. Homemade jams, pickled vegetables, or sauces are practical ways to honour the energy of harvest and carry it forward into the cooler months.
