Honouring Your Luteal Phase

Note: your body is complex, intelligent, and unique. You know it better than anyone. The information shared here is intended as guidance and reflection only and is not a substitute for medical advice or your lived experience.

For those of us who menstruate, the ebbs and flows of the monthly cycle can be recognised as a series of inner seasons. The luteal phase, when oestrogen begins to fall, and progesterone rises after ovulation, is often referred to as Inner Autumn.

Similarly, to the external season, Inner Autumn marks a turning point. The momentum of summer begins to slow, and attention shifts toward preparation and preservation. This is a time for letting go of what is no longer serving us and redirecting energy toward what will sustain us through our inner winter – our menstruation.

During this phase, you may feel like cleaning, organising, decluttering your physical / mental spaces or maybe doing absolutely nothing at all because focus can also be difficult. It’s a great time for journaling (get that hot mess out of your head and onto paper), list-making, and simplifying upcoming commitments. If you experience strong PMS or PMDD, this is an important phase for protecting your energy and your calendar, setting boundaries, and allowing yourself more rest. Prioritise sleep, batch-cooking meals to support the weeks ahead, and easing back on alcohol, coffee, and other stimulants to support the liver as it processes excess oestrogen.

Tuning into our bodies and listening to what they need can be a game changer for those of us who experience a turbulent or uneasy luteal phase, we love our Autumn bundle for this time in our cycles - our Peace balm offers a blend of plant oils including Lavender that can soothe a restless mind & body, it also includes clary sage that can have a profound effect on our bodies during this time, both physically & mentally - we suggest gently massaging a small amount onto your womb space to ease some of the discomfort or tension you're dealing with. Our Intuition Mist also contains lavender, along with peppermint (great for headaches or nausea for some people) helping us ease any brain fog lingering around & to intuitively listen to our body, spritz this around your space or self.
